Liquid Coating Wetting and Cured-Film Wetting: Identify Which Surface Was Tested

A liquid coating spreading on a substrate and water placed on its cured film are different experiments. State which liquid and solid form the interface before interpreting a contact-angle result.

The key distinction

The first experiment can inform an application question; the second can characterize the resulting surface under defined conditions. Neither should be relabelled as the other in a supplier comparison or marketing summary.

Practical checks

  1. Identify the liquid, substrate and sample state explicitly.
  2. Record preparation and conditioning.
  3. Connect the result to the question the experiment actually addresses.

Example

Illustrative example: a report evaluates the coating liquid on glass, but a presentation describes the result as water repellency of the cured coating. The interface has changed in the description, so the conclusion is unsupported.

Scope and limits

Do not infer final durability or compatibility from a single wetting measurement. Use the complete product instructions and evidence for the intended finished system.
