Fabric Protection: Distinguish Water Repellency from Waterproofing

Water repellency at the surface is not the same as a waterproof assembly. Seams, backing and construction remain relevant.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Define the intended spill or weather exposure and check the textile and treatment specifications.

Water rolling from a sample does not prove that a stitched cushion will prevent liquid entering through seams.

Decision limits

Do not advertise a treated fabric as waterproof from a beading demonstration alone.
