Coating Stock Reservations: Give Temporary Allocations a Review Point

A temporary stock reservation should have an owner and a review trigger. Otherwise, old enquiries can keep coating inventory unavailable long after the original purchasing decision has changed.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

Distinguish confirmed customer commitments from provisional allocations. The commercial process determines when a reservation can be released, and the record should preserve that decision rather than silently deleting it.

Practical checks

  1. Record the reservation purpose, quantity and owner.
  2. Define the agreed review date or event.
  3. Reconcile released allocations with current customer commitments.

Example

Illustrative example: a sample-stage prospect has a provisional allocation that remains active after the project is deferred. A review process can clarify its status without accidentally breaking a confirmed order promise.

Scope and limits

Do not release reserved stock contrary to an agreed commitment. This guide describes operational visibility and does not create or override the business's commercial reservation terms.
