Coating Shower Glass in a Bathroom with Timber Shelving

Timber shelving near a shower needs its own compatibility and protection checks. A glass-coating service should not accidentally become a timber treatment.

Timber shelving near a shower needs its own compatibility and protection checks. A glass-coating service should not accidentally become a timber treatment.

Assess the starting condition

Identify bare, oiled, painted and lacquered wood around the enclosure. Inspect existing moisture marks before work. Their presence should be recorded rather than assumed to result from the new glass coating.

A practical working method

  1. Clear movable items and protect permanent shelving with a suitable method.
  2. Keep coating liquid, cleaners and wet cloths off the timber.
  3. Trial boundary-cleaning methods where contact cannot be ruled out.
  4. Inspect the timber dry after removing temporary protection.

Common mistake

Using one cloth for glass preparation and timber cleanup can transfer incompatible products. A coating intended for shower glass does not establish waterproofing performance for shelving.

What a useful result looks like

The useful outcome is a documented glass treatment with adjacent wood preserved. Include runoff control in aftercare, and refer existing timber deterioration to the appropriate finish or construction specialist rather than promising that coated glass will solve it.
