Cleaning-Time Trials for Shower Glass: Keep the Finish Standard Fixed

Measure shower glass cleaning time against one fixed dry-finish standard so faster work does not hide incomplete cleaning.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A cleaning-time trial is invalid if one group stops at a streaked finish while another continues until the glass is clear. Define the accepted result before starting the stopwatch and use the same endpoint throughout the comparison.

Create an acceptance reference

Choose representative lighting and viewing positions. Describe acceptable dryness, visible residue and treatment of edges and hardware. Keep a reference photograph or physical sample where useful, while recognising that photographs may not show every streak.

Time the complete task

Time component Include when relevant
Preparation Collecting and preparing the normal materials
Active cleaning Applying, wiping, rinsing and drying
Inspection Checking the dry finish
Rework Any extra work required to pass

Keep the boundary consistent. If material collection is excluded, exclude it for both groups and explain that the result concerns the cleaning task only.

Match the challenge

Compare similar room use, water supply and cleaning intervals. Record unusual contamination separately rather than quietly removing slow rooms from the dataset. Rotate trained cleaners across comparable rooms where practical so one operator’s speed does not become a product effect.

An illustrative result

One process takes four minutes initially but needs two additional minutes to remove streaks. Another takes five minutes and passes immediately. The accepted task times are six and five minutes. Reporting only the first wipe would reverse the operational conclusion.

Also record the proportion of rooms passing on the first inspection. A process with the same average time but fewer repeat visits may simplify scheduling, provided the acceptance standard remains unchanged.

Report the spread

Show typical time and variation, not only the single fastest room. Retain room identity, cleaner, date and reason for unusual results. A time saving that appears only in one unusually easy room is a lead for further testing, not a property-wide claim.

The useful outcome is less work to the same accepted finish. The finish standard makes that statement meaningful.
