Treat paint protection film as a separate material and check its manufacturer's correction and care guidance before applying a paint-polishing process.

Paint protection film sits above the paint and has its own surface construction. A polish that works on clear coat is not automatically suitable for the film’s top layer. Identify the film and its care instructions before treating scratches or haze.
Gloss, satin, coloured and other films may have different recommendations. Ask the installer for the film identity if it is unknown.
Do not assume that self-healing properties mean any scratch can be corrected with heat or abrasion. Follow the named film manufacturer’s approved method and limits.
Clean using a compatible process and inspect the surface. The issue may be contamination, film damage, an installation-related appearance or a defect beneath the film.
Polishing the film cannot necessarily address a mark within the paint below it. A local abrasion attempt may alter the film while leaving the original appearance unchanged.
If the manufacturer permits a particular polishing method, follow its product, tool and application requirements. Do not extrapolate instructions for one film to every PPF.
Avoid unapproved solvents and abrasives. Matte or satin film is especially sensitive to an unwanted local sheen change.
Damaged edges, lifting, deep marks or uncertain film condition call for installer assessment. Repair or replacement may be more appropriate than attempting to polish the defect away.
Before adding protection, check compatibility with the film and any existing coating. The surface’s own manufacturer guidance remains relevant even when a coating supplier lists PPF among supported applications.
The correct distinction is simple: polishing painted panels and treating film-covered panels are separate decisions. A mixed-surface vehicle needs a map of those areas so a successful clear-coat correction process is not applied indiscriminately across the car.
