Build a Coating Distribution Handover for a New Salesperson

Give a new salesperson one controlled source for product roles, enquiries and escalation.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A new coating salesperson needs a controlled set of working information, not a folder of old brochures and message screenshots. A good handover connects product roles, customer questions and the next step in the sales process.

Build the core reference set

Include the current product overview, relevant documentation links, enquiry-routing guide and confirmed commercial-information source. Identify who owns each resource. Separate material that is approved for customers from internal notes or unresolved proposals so a new employee does not publish provisional information accidentally.

Practice with representative enquiries

Use examples from the actual customer base without exposing unnecessary personal details. Ask the salesperson to distinguish an owner purchase, a professional application question, a distribution enquiry and a private-label project. Have them identify missing information and select the correct follow-up resource.

Confirm readiness through decisions

For example, a salesperson should recognize that an unknown film type requires clarification rather than a recommendation based on a vehicle photograph. Review a few responses before independent handling of technical enquiries. Keep the handover record concise: resources supplied, practice completed and questions still requiring support. Update it when products or processes change. Effective onboarding gives the salesperson confidence in the approved information and a clear route for uncertainty, rather than making them depend on memorized claims or informal advice.

The new-salesperson handover pack

Include the current range, customer segments, confirmed supply formats, product-document links and named contacts for order and technical questions. Add a small set of real, anonymized enquiry examples with the response path each required.

Have the new salesperson work through one sample quotation request and one compatibility question before handling them independently. Check whether they can distinguish an approved product fact from a sales assumption. Keep access to superseded promotional files clearly separated from the current pack. A large folder of brochures is not a complete handover if the person cannot tell which document to use or who owns an unanswered question. Assign a review date after the first live enquiries.

Discuss your distribution requirements. For supporting information, review the current product documentation and the local distributor information.
