A distributor's surface-exclusion card helps users recognise when a coating should not be applied without further guidance. It should be derived from the exact product documentation and kept current with it. A short card is useful for selection, but it cannot replace the complete instructions or safety information.
List approved surfaces in precise terms and distinguish them from unapproved or uncertain applications. Avoid broad categories such as all plastics when the technical documentation supports only specific substrates. Include the product identifier and document version so users know which coating the card covers.
Use realistic examples that distributors encounter, such as a factory-treated surface, matte finish or component with a functional role. Do not infer exclusions or approvals from a different product in the same brand range. Ask the supplier to resolve gaps before printing.
Provide a clear support route for uncertain materials. The useful instruction is to identify the substrate and obtain guidance, not to improvise a solvent test or apply a small amount and assume long-term compatibility.
Ask representative users to choose an action for several sample surfaces using the card. Check whether they can distinguish an approved application from one requiring advice. Revise ambiguous wording before distribution.
Keep translations and reseller copies aligned with the approved source. When product guidance changes, retire superseded cards through the distribution process. Do not let a simplified sales aid preserve an older compatibility statement after the full instructions have been updated. A good card makes the boundary easy to recognise and directs the user to the right information before application begins.
