A Final-Polish Check after Panel Prep: Inspect the Same Defect Locations

Reinspect the same mapped paint defects after final polish and suitable panel preparation to verify clarity before ceramic coating.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The finish immediately after polishing can differ from the finish after suitable residue removal. Revisit the same defect locations after panel preparation so a change in lighting or observation area does not distort the conclusion.

Choose a location-based record

Map a small set of representative marks before polishing. Include general wash marks, a local defect and an accepted reference area. Use stable vehicle features to relocate them without marking the paint.

Inspect through the sequence

Stage Question
Before polish What is actually present?
After polish What appears improved?
After approved residue removal Does the improvement remain visible?
Before coating Is the accepted surface still clean and ready?

Use preparation products and techniques suitable for the paint and coating. More aggressive wiping is not automatically better preparation and may introduce its own marks.

Distinguish remaining defects from new residue

If haze appears after preparation, examine whether it follows the wiping pattern or the original defect map. Inspect towel condition, product use and the dry surface. Do not assume every post-prep mark proves that polishing oils were hiding damage.

An illustrative review

A mapped scratch remains at the same location after the preparation step, while broad smearing changes with an approved clean towel check. These observations suggest two separate issues: an unresolved defect and removable residue. They should not receive one blanket polishing response.

Set the final release point

Coat only after the preparation result is accepted. If more correction is justified, repeat the relevant inspection sequence after that work. Preserve the paint limits agreed at intake rather than chasing every newly visible detail.

Record what remains and what was accepted. A location-based final check is more defensible than comparing two attractive photographs taken from different angles. It also gives the coating technician a clear baseline for distinguishing later application residue from pre-existing paint features.
