Small recurring marks on a car parked near railway lines are worth investigating, but proximity does not prove that every spot is rail dust. A useful care decision combines the exposure history, the pattern of marks and the response to an appropriate cleaning process.
Document the affected panels before washing, then use the coating's accepted wash method. Inspect the dry surface. Are the marks still discrete specks, a broad film or visible pits? Avoid rubbing a dry fingertip over the panel as a roughness test.
If the marks suggest bonded contamination, ask the installer which decontamination route is approved for the coating and vehicle materials. A colour reaction from a specialist cleaner is an observation about that cleaner's interaction; it is not a complete identification of every deposit or proof that the paint is undamaged.
Do not combine chemical and abrasive methods without checking the need for each stage. Clay and polishing can change the finish and protection, so they should be planned rather than added automatically to every wash.
Record the parking duration, location and which panels are most affected. A comparison after parking elsewhere can help assess whether the location matters, though weather and driving conditions also change the exposure.
If repeated contamination is confirmed, discuss a manageable wash and inspection routine. Protecting the car is not simply a choice between “coated” and “uncoated”: prompt suitable cleaning, careful tools and practical parking decisions remain relevant. Seek professional assessment if specks persist, the finish appears pitted or previous cleaning has left haze. The goal is to remove what can safely be removed while avoiding unnecessary damage from the investigation itself.
