A protection topper can alter gloss and the visibility of fine marks.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge
A protection topper can alter gloss and the visibility of fine marks. If the purpose is to evaluate finish polish, document the cleaned polished surface before the topper is applied. Then record the completed protected finish as a separate stage.
The pre-protection image shows the accepted abrasive result under the stated inspection method. The post-protection image shows the appearance of the complete system. Both can be useful, but they answer different questions.
Keep lighting, camera position and exposure as consistent as practical. A dramatic change in photography can obscure the difference between actual surface refinement and presentation.
Follow the exact preparation instructions for the protection product. Do not assume a topper is appropriate over every polish residue or coating. Where a ceramic system specifies a curing interval or permitted maintenance product, respect that guidance.
Inspect for smears, high spots or uneven residue after application according to the product’s procedure. Those are protection-stage issues and should not automatically be diagnosed as unfinished polishing.
If the final vehicle looks glossier, describe the complete process rather than attribute the entire change to scratch removal. Do not claim that a topper repaired paint or restored clear coat removed during polishing.
When comparing two finish polishes, use the same valid post-polish inspection before any optional topper. Otherwise the comparison may primarily reflect different protection or preparation products.
The unprotected record is useful if appearance changes after washing or use. It helps distinguish an original correction limitation from changing protection and newly introduced contact marks.
A well-documented finish has a clear sequence: accepted polishing, required preparation and completed protection. Separating those stages makes product comparisons fairer and customer explanations more credible while still allowing the final protected vehicle to be presented attractively.
