Graphene and Borophene Combined Coatings for Matte Finishes: Preserve the Intended Look

A matte finish creates a different appearance requirement from a gloss finish.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A matte finish creates a different appearance requirement from a gloss finish. When considering graphene and borophene together in a coating, the first question is whether the proposed formula preserves the intended look. A higher gloss reading would not automatically be a benefit on a surface chosen for its low-gloss character.

Define appearance acceptance before application

Describe the finish the customer wants to retain and choose a representative evaluation area. Inspect it before treatment under consistent lighting, then follow the proposed coating instructions. Look for changes in sheen, colour impression, patchiness and marks that become visible from an angle. The acceptance decision should be based on the intended appearance rather than the assumption that a shinier surface always looks better.

Keep product-specific approval separate from ingredient choice

A formula containing graphene may be appropriate for a particular matte application, while another formula containing the same named additive may not be. Adding borophene does not resolve that question by itself. Compatibility and appearance belong to the complete product. Avoid extending approval from one coated sample to every matte paint, film or textured surface without a relevant basis.

NANOLAB can formulate a combined coating with both graphene and borophene additives. If preserving a matte finish is essential, state that requirement at the beginning of the project. Ask for guidance on the exact formulation and evaluate the appearance before committing to wider application.
