A barrier claim should identify what the coating is intended to resist and how the result was measured.

A barrier claim should identify what the coating is intended to resist and how the result was measured. The presence of borophene does not establish universal impermeability to every liquid, gas or contaminant.
Ask whether the evaluation concerns penetration, surface wetting, visible staining or another outcome. These observations are not interchangeable. A surface that beads water has not thereby been tested for every possible transport or barrier property.
The relevant specimen includes the finished coating and its substrate, preparation and condition. If a research paper concerns a different material arrangement, keep that limitation visible. Do not use an ideal atomic-sheet illustration as direct evidence of a commercial film’s barrier performance.
A useful barrier statement is narrow enough to verify. Describe the tested substance, conditions and endpoint, and avoid expanding a borophene ingredient story into an unqualified claim that nothing can pass through or affect the coating.
