Borophene Test Units: Keep Mass Percentage and Atomic Percentage Separate

Different analytical reports can express composition on different bases.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Different analytical reports can express composition on different bases. A borophene-related result in atomic percentage should not be compared directly with a formulation value in mass percentage as though the numbers were equivalent.

Identify the basis

Read the unit and sample description before interpreting the value. Ask whether the result concerns a surface region, a bulk sample or the complete formulation. Keep that scope attached to the number when preparing a customer summary.

Avoid unsupported conversion

Converting between composition bases requires the relevant information and a suitable calculation. Do not estimate a borophene loading from a single elemental number without understanding the sample and material identity. The presence of boron alone also does not establish a specific structure.

A precise numerical statement needs a defined unit, basis and specimen. Keeping those details visible prevents a technically valid analytical result from becoming a misleading marketing percentage for the finished coating.
