Coating Component Lots: Preserve Packaging Genealogy Where It Matters

A packaging investigation may need to identify the bottle, closure or liner lot used in a filling run. Preserve those relationships where the approved traceability process requires them.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

The level of detail should match the product and process risk, rather than collecting identifiers that nobody can use. The record must allow a reviewer to connect a finished pack to the relevant component history accurately.

Practical checks

  1. Identify which component references the process requires.
  2. Record their use against the filling run.
  3. Verify that the final coding system can retrieve the relationship.

Example

Illustrative example: a closure concern affects one component lot used across two runs. A usable genealogy record helps define the relevant population without assuming that every bottle of the same formula is affected.

Scope and limits

Do not infer a product disposition from genealogy alone. The quality and technical teams should assess the actual issue and required action using the complete evidence.
