Metal Finish Direction: Carry the Orientation Mark from Sample to Installation

A directional finish needs an orientation reference that survives fabrication and installation. A coating sample without that reference can be difficult to compare fairly with the finished assembly.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

Mark the direction outside the evaluation area and connect it to the drawing. This helps the team repeat inspection and distinguish a directional appearance difference from a treatment-related change.

Practical checks

  1. Record the finish direction on the approved sample map.
  2. Preserve orientation through packing and installation records.
  3. Compare installed panels under equivalent viewing conditions.

Example

Illustrative example: two approved samples are photographed in different orientations and appear to have different sheen. Before changing the coating process, the team should repeat the comparison with the orientation aligned.

Scope and limits

Do not mark or scratch the exposed finish to create an identification reference unless the approved process permits it. A direction record supports comparison but does not establish the cause of every visual mismatch.
