Coating Bundles: Calculate Contribution for the Whole Basket

A bundle should be evaluated using the revenue and costs of the complete basket. A profitable headline coating can conceal a weak offer if accessories, fulfilment or included aftercare products are omitted from the calculation.

The key distinction

List every supplied component and the variable costs triggered by the bundled order. Keep the customer's payment separate from any advertised sum of individual retail prices. The analysis should explain the actual transaction, including the effect of replacing a normal standalone order with a discounted bundle.

Practical checks

  1. Record the net bundle revenue and quantities of all components.
  2. Include the relevant packaging and fulfilment costs once at the correct level.
  3. Compare contribution with the realistic alternative purchase, not only with an assumed full-price basket.

Example

Arithmetic example: a hypothetical bundle generates 70 in net revenue and has 42 in relevant variable costs, leaving 28 in contribution. A standalone coating order might contribute 25. The incremental contribution is 3 in that comparison, not the bundle's entire 28.

Scope and limits

This example does not establish demand or recommend a price. Some customers may buy different combinations, so use observed purchase patterns where available. Avoid presenting an attractive bundle discount as evidence that the offer improves profit without checking the actual order economics.
