Back-Painted Glass: Identify the Face Included in the Coating Service

Back-painted decorative glass has different faces with different functions. A coating quote should identify the exposed face being assessed and should not imply that a glass-cleaning method is suitable for the painted backing or edges.

The key distinction

Product construction determines which areas are accessible and how they may be maintained. AGC's decorative-glass guidance distinguishes procedures for particular products and faces. Use that information to define the service boundary, especially around openings or exposed edges where liquids can reach materials outside the intended glass face.

Practical checks

  1. Obtain the exact decorative-glass product and installation details where available.
  2. Mark the proposed treatment face and identify edges, joints and cut-outs that need separate care decisions.
  3. Confirm the approved preparation and any additional coating compatibility with the relevant manufacturers before a representative assessment.

Example

Illustrative example: a kitchen panel presents a glass face to the room, while the colour layer is behind it. A request to protect the coloured glass should not be interpreted as permission to treat the painted backing or allow cleaner to collect around every exposed edge.

Scope and limits

Do not generalize one AGC product's cleaning permissions to all painted glass. A visually similar panel may have a different construction. Cosmetic surface protection does not repair backing deterioration, bonding problems or damage within the decorative assembly.
