Coating Production Yield: Distinguish First-Pass Yield from Final Yield

First-pass yield measures units accepted without rework. Final yield also includes units accepted after an approved correction. Reporting only final yield can hide process instability.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Count initial accepted units, reworked units and final rejects separately using a defined production denominator.

If 90 of 100 units pass immediately and five more pass after approved rework, first-pass yield is 90% and final yield is 95%.

Decision limits

Do not classify uninspected units as accepted or treat rework as automatically permitted. Keep release decisions tied to the agreed procedure.
