Coating Bottle Filling: Investigate Foam Before Changing the Fill Target

Entrained air or foam can make a volume-based observation misleading. Increasing or reducing the target without understanding the behaviour may create inconsistent final fills.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Record the product, filling method, temperature and time between filling and inspection. Ask the formulation and equipment suppliers how the process should handle the observed behaviour.

A bottle appears full immediately after a fast fill, then the apparent level changes as entrained air dissipates.

Decision limits

Do not add antifoam or another chemical to a finished coating as a workshop correction. Any formulation change requires the manufacturer's evaluation and approval.
