Coating Bottle Filling: Separate Gross Weight from the Acceptance Limit

Gross weight includes the bottle, closure and contents. A fixed gross-weight threshold can conceal differences in empty packaging weight.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Establish the approved net-fill method with representative tare measurements. Keep the scale resolution and uncertainty suitable for the decision. Record the exact packaging components included.

Two bottles with equal gross weight can contain different product quantities if one empty bottle is heavier.

Decision limits

Do not use an average tare without checking whether its variation is acceptable for the filling control. Follow applicable packaging requirements through qualified review.
