Translate coating minimum order quantities into months of stock and compare demand scenarios with actual usable storage life.

A minimum order quantity becomes easier to evaluate when expressed as months of expected demand. The calculation exposes the relationship between a supplier's order requirement and a brand's realistic sales pace, including the risk of slow-moving stock.
In an illustrative case, an MOQ of 600 bottles and expected demand of 100 bottles per month represents six months of stock before allowing for existing inventory. If demand is only 50 per month, the same order represents twelve months.
Use sell-through or actual consumption appropriate to the business, not merely an initial distributor loading order. Separate confirmed demand from a launch target. If demand is highly seasonal, a single monthly average may hide the period when stock is needed.
Add usable on-hand stock and relevant incoming orders, then account for committed customer orders consistently. Avoid placing a new MOQ because the shelf looks low while a previous shipment is already in transit.
Check the product's documented storage and shelf-life information and the remaining usable period of the actual batch. Months of coverage is not useful if the stock cannot remain suitable for that long under the planned conditions.
Ask whether a different pack configuration, staged order or smaller initial SKU range is available. Those are commercial questions for the supplier, not assumptions to build into a forecast without agreement.
For a NANOLAB private-label launch, show base and lower-demand scenarios alongside the quoted MOQ. A lower unit price may still be unattractive if it ties up resources in inventory that moves slowly. The decision should balance availability, usable life and realistic demand rather than treating the minimum quantity as a sales forecast.
