Leather Coating After a Seat Has Been Reupholstered

Reupholstered seats have a new material and construction history. Confirm that history before using the old seat’s coating routine.

Assess the starting condition

Ask the upholsterer about leather type, outer finish, adhesives and any release restrictions. Identify retained original sections separately from replacements. A visual match does not establish equal product compatibility.

A practical working method

  1. Record the replaced sections and materials.
  2. Follow the upholsterer’s cleaning and readiness instructions.
  3. Test the intended protection on a suitable approved area.
  4. Inspect colour and feel after the specified cure.

Common mistake

Applying the former coating simply because the seat colour matches overlooks material changes. Calendar age alone is not a complete readiness check.

What a useful result looks like

A useful handover joins the upholstery record with the new protection plan. Keep separate care requirements visible where original and replacement sections remain on the same seat.
