Dye Transfer on Ceramic-Protected Leather

A dark mark on a light seat may remain possible even when the upholstery has a protective treatment. Ceramic leather protection should not be presented as a guarantee against every dye transfer event. The useful response is to identify the surface, the mark and the cleaning history.

Record the first observations

Note when the mark appeared, where contact occurred and which cleaners have already been used. Photograph the area under ordinary, consistent light. Distinguish surface dirt from a suspected colour transfer without treating a visual guess as a confirmed diagnosis.

Check the upholstery type and finish before applying a leather-specific cleaner. Materials that resemble leather may have different care requirements. Existing wear or damaged topcoat can also change the appropriate response.

Use a compatible local process

Start with the vehicle and treatment manufacturers’ recommended cleaning method. Test discreetly where appropriate and avoid repeated aggressive scrubbing. If colour transfers from the seat or its finish changes, stop and seek specialist assessment.

Do not use a new protective layer to conceal the mark. Cleaning, stain correction and protection renewal are different stages. A persistent stain may require a leather professional rather than a stronger version of ordinary maintenance.

Review protection after cleaning
