Seats with contrasting inserts may combine different materials and finish systems. Identify each section before applying leather protection.

Assess the starting condition

Check the vehicle’s upholstery information and inspect the inserts, bolsters and piping separately. A leather label for the seat does not establish that every visible section is the same material.

A practical working method

  1. Map the confirmed materials and existing repairs.
  2. Test the approved cleaner and coating on each suitable finish.
  3. Keep product off unapproved inserts and neighbouring surfaces.
  4. Inspect colour and feel after the specified dry or cure stage.

Common mistake

One successful bolster test cannot verify a textile, suede-like or artificial-leather insert. Broad application can leave an uneven appearance across the seat.

What a useful result looks like

A useful treatment preserves the intended contrast and documents exclusions. Keep material-specific care instructions together so later cleaning does not treat the whole seat as one uniform surface.
