Nearby welding can introduce heat, particles and contamination. Assess the event before resuming ordinary decorative metal care.

Assess the starting condition

Record where work occurred and the protection used. Inspect affected metal for embedded particles, staining and finish changes. A coating is not a guarantee against welding-related damage.

A practical working method

  1. Stop routine rubbing where hard or embedded contamination is suspected.
  2. Obtain suitable specialist assessment for the actual finish.
  3. Separate cleaning, restoration and corrosion-related work.
  4. Reassess coating only after the underlying surface is accepted.

Common mistake

Scrubbing welding contamination with a household abrasive can change the grain without resolving the full problem. A water test does not identify embedded metal contamination.

What a useful result looks like

The useful outcome is a documented restored or referred surface with a revised protection plan. Future work should include appropriate trade protection rather than relying on a cosmetic coating as a barrier to workshop exposure.
