Cut Stainless Edges After Fabrication: Include Them in the Coating Scope

Cut edges can have a different finish and access condition from the broad face of a panel. Define their preparation and treatment rather than assuming face approval covers them.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Identify the edge condition

Record how the component was supplied and which edges remain exposed. Obtain the fabricator’s finishing information where available. Keep visible defects or unresolved edge finishing separate from ordinary cleaning residue.

Agree who prepares the edges

Use the relevant fabrication and component requirements for any finishing work. Do not introduce grinding or polishing solely as an improvised coating-preparation step. Confirm the accepted condition before the nano application begins.

Review practical application

Check the exact product instructions and how the approved method reaches the edge. Note inaccessible contacts or concealed sections in the scope. A successful trial on the flat panel does not establish complete treatment around every cut boundary.

Keep maintenance realistic

Record treated and excluded edges and provide care guidance for the actual assembly. Inspect later observations in context, including nearby fasteners and contact areas. Do not turn flat-face water beading into a claim that every edge is corrosion-proof.

Frequently asked question

Does coating the panel face establish that all cut edges were treated?

No. Record edge access and the completed treatment explicitly.
