A sealant-like smear should be identified and addressed with an appropriate glass-care method before coating. Do not treat it as a reason for unrestricted scraping or solvent use.

Ask what installation or repair work occurred and obtain product information where available. Record the pane identity and any factory treatment. A translucent smear can have more than one source, so keep uncertain material identification explicit.
Review the glazing and installation-product cleaning instructions. Resolve unclear compatibility with the installer or technical supplier. A cleaner or tool used on one glass system is not automatically suitable for another coated face.
After the approved removal sequence, assess the dry pane under suitable light. Distinguish remaining residue from scratches or changed appearance. Do not proceed with coating merely because the smear becomes less visible when wet.
Record what was removed, the method and the accepted surface condition before application. Keep damaged or uncertain areas outside an unsupported coating promise. The coating stage should begin from a verified preparation result.
Do not use it as a residue-concealing step. Identify the material, follow an appropriate removal method and inspect the glass before coating.
