Where to Put Batch Codes on Private Label Coating Packs

Design batch-code placement for private label coatings so product identity remains readable after unboxing, handling, storage and customer support enquiries.

A batch code is useful only if it remains available when someone needs it. A code printed solely on a discarded shipping carton can leave a private label brand unable to identify a customer’s bottle. Plan the information path from factory pack to end-user support.

Map where packaging disappears

Follow a normal order through receiving, reseller storage, unboxing and application. Note which labels or cartons are removed at each step. The product unit should retain the identification required for the brand’s traceability process and applicable labelling requirements.

Distinguish the product code, batch identifier and date information. A customer should not need to guess which of several numbers support is asking them to read.

Trial the code at actual size

Print the proposed code on the real packaging material. Check contrast, character size and readability on a curved bottle. Look at it under ordinary workshop lighting, not only on a large design monitor.

Inspect whether the code is obscured by an insert, protective sleeve or the way the bottle is held. If the carton also carries the code, confirm that the two references remain correctly associated through packing.

Include handling in the assessment

After normal storage and use under the product’s instructions, check whether the code is still readable. Review the effects of ordinary handling and any permitted cleaning of the bottle exterior. Do not invent aggressive chemical tests unrelated to the packaging specification.

Ask a person unfamiliar with the pack to locate the code using the proposed support instruction. This quickly reveals whether the wording is practical.

Make support instructions match the pack

Use a simple diagram or photograph showing where customers should look. Keep the coding format documented internally and linked to the supplier’s records. When artwork or packaging changes, recheck placement and readability. A well-designed code location makes batch traceability usable in the real world rather than a feature that exists only in the production file.
