Paint Thickness Readings Near an Edge: Check the Gauge’s Limits

Measurements near a panel edge may be affected by geometry. An unusual reading needs method verification before it becomes a polishing decision.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Consult the probe's minimum edge-distance requirements and repeat measurements in suitable locations. Record the excluded area rather than inventing its thickness.

A thin-looking reading beside a sharp return cannot automatically be compared with a reading from the centre of a flat door.

Decision limits

Do not average unsuitable readings into a reassuring panel value. Use a suitable method and conservative treatment where reliable information is unavailable.
