Mirrors: Confirm the Coating Scope Before Treatment

A mirror is more than a sheet of visible glass. Its edges, backing and frame may have care restrictions that differ from the front surface.

Ask what is actually approved

Confirm whether the proposed treatment is suitable for the mirror’s exposed face and any existing decorative or anti-fog treatment. Do not assume a product recommended for shower glass has the same intended use on a mirror. Obtain the mirror manufacturer’s care guidance where available.

Protect edges and adjacent materials

Follow the approved application method and avoid unnecessary saturation around edges, joints or frames. Keep cleaners and preparation products away from materials for which they are unsuitable. A discreet test should be assessed under the lighting used in the room, where small streaks may be conspicuous.

Distinguish the desired benefit

An easy-clean or water-repellent treatment should not be described as anti-fog unless that function is specifically established for the product. Explain the actual aim of the project and keep normal cleaning instructions in place. If the mirror already has damage behind the glass, a front-surface coating will not repair it.
