Stainless-steel door furniture includes decorative surfaces and working components. A coating enquiry should describe the exact parts proposed for cosmetic treatment and their use. Compatibility with a metal finish does not automatically establish suitability for an entire operating assembly.
Identify the components
Record the manufacturer, finish and relevant care information where available. Distinguish handles, plates and decorative faces from locks, moving interfaces and other functional parts. Include existing surface treatments and any repair history. Do not infer the finish solely from a metallic appearance.
Describe contact and maintenance
Explain how the component is used and cleaned. Identify any special requirements that need separate confirmation. For example, a decorative plate may present a different application question from a frequently handled operating component even when both share a similar finish.
Obtain a bounded recommendation
Provide the product supplier with the actual use case and ask for approved scope and instructions. Record exclusions and use a representative evaluation where appropriate. Keep the resulting care information available to facilities staff. A useful enquiry does not ask whether all door hardware can be coated; it asks whether a specified product is appropriate for identified cosmetic surfaces within a defined assembly. This keeps operational functions outside assumptions made during a decorative-protection discussion.
Define the hardware's functional exclusions
Identify the component, exposed finish and surfaces being considered for treatment. Distinguish decorative faces from mechanisms, contact interfaces, moving parts and any function that could be affected. Obtain the hardware supplier's relevant guidance before extending a decorative coating recommendation.
Record cleaning products and use conditions, then ask the coating manufacturer for an application-specific assessment. Do not generalize from stainless furniture legs to door hardware simply because both are metallic. The enquiry should lead to a bounded scope or a decision that further information is needed, with exclusions retained in the job record and maintenance handover.
