Shelf life and open-bottle life answer different questions about a ceramic coating.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge
Shelf life and open-bottle life answer different questions about a ceramic coating. One concerns storage under specified conditions before use; the other concerns handling after the container has been opened. Read the exact supplier guidance rather than assuming the unopened date continues to describe every partly used bottle.
Keep the product identity, batch reference and relevant supplier dates with the bottle. Note the first opening and any storage conditions outside the stated requirements. Use a record that remains readable without obscuring the original label or safety information.
Follow the instructions for closing, storage and permitted reuse. Do not transfer product to a different container, add solvent or refrigerate it as an improvised preservation method. These actions may change conditions the supplier has not approved.
Inspect the container and product only as instructed. Appearance alone cannot establish that a coating remains within specification, and an apparently clear liquid is not proof that its performance is unchanged.
If the open-bottle guidance is missing, ask the supplier using the batch and handling history. Avoid borrowing a time limit from another formulation or assuming that all ceramic coatings react identically to storage. Keep uncertain material out of a customer's application until the question is resolved.
Plan pack sizes and job scheduling around the documented handling requirements. Record disposal or rejection where the product is no longer suitable, following the relevant instructions. This separates inventory management from guesswork and helps a workshop explain why an unopened bottle and a frequently opened remainder may require different decisions even when their printed production dates are the same.
