Investigate patchy beading on a coated panel with a controlled cleaning comparison before adding a topper or assuming coating failure.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Patchy beading after washing is a reason to inspect the surface, not a complete diagnosis. A controlled half-panel check can help distinguish a maintenance-related change from a persistent condition that needs further assessment.
Confirm the substrate, coating history and whether the surface has completed the relevant cure stage. Do not perform water tests or cleaning procedures that conflict with the current instructions. If the panel contains damaged paint, lifted film or an unresolved repair, address that first.
Choose adjacent representative areas and document their initial dry appearance and water behaviour. Apply only an approved maintenance treatment to one area, keeping the other as a comparison. Control runoff so treatment does not unintentionally reach both sides.
| Keep consistent | Reason |
|---|---|
| Water source and application | Different water conditions change the visual comparison |
| Panel orientation | Gravity affects drainage |
| Inspection timing | Fresh residues can alter observations |
| Drying method | Tools can transfer contamination |
If the treated area recovers more uniform behaviour, that supports a role for removable surface contamination or maintenance residue in that area. It does not identify the exact chemistry or prove the whole coating is unchanged. If there is no improvement, do not conclude automatically that the coating is gone.
Adding a hydrophobic topper can create new beading while making the underlying coating harder to assess. If a topper is used as part of the agreed maintenance programme, record it and describe the result as the maintained system.
For an illustrative case, a lower door remains patchy while an upper area responds to cleaning. Keep those outcomes separate and review their exposure history. One successful test does not justify aggressive treatment of every panel.
Send the product identity, dates, cleaning sequence and matched photographs to technical support when the issue remains unresolved. The controlled comparison is valuable because it documents what changed and what did not.
Ask NANOLAB about your surface and intended use. For application and care, use the current instructions for the exact product.
