Choosing a Tray for Coating Bottles and Used Applicators

A coating tray should keep containers stable, separate clean items from used ones and make spills visible. Its usefulness depends on layout and material compatibility, not on how many accessories it can hold. Choose a tray for the products and work sequence actually used in the bay.

Define three positions

Reserve a stable area for closed bottles, a protected position for clean materials and a separate area for active or used applicators. Avoid a single loose pile in which bottle bases touch applicator faces. Keep labels visible so similar containers cannot be confused.

Check the tray material against the handling requirements of the products it may contact. A decorative liner that softens, sheds fibres or absorbs unknown residues can create another contamination source. Use a cleanable arrangement appropriate to the product instructions.

Place the tray where it can be reached without leaning over finished paint. It should not sit on the vehicle or obstruct a walking route. Consider the operator's movement around the car, including where the tray will be repositioned between panels.

Review the layout during a real job

Observe whether caps, towels and applicators return to their assigned positions naturally. If operators repeatedly put used items in the clean area, change the layout rather than relying on reminders alone. Reduce unnecessary contents so each item's status remains obvious.

Handle spills according to the product documentation and inspect the tray before reuse. At cleanup, check underneath bottles and removable inserts, not just the visible centre. A tray that contains residue overnight can contaminate the next job even if every towel placed into it is freshly laundered. Make tray inspection part of setup and close-down.
