Pre-wash overspray can land on neighbouring cars, windows or equipment even when the operator never points the nozzle directly at them. Before spraying, consider where airborne droplets and runoff can travel, particularly in a shared car park or mobile detailing location.
Check nearby surfaces, wind direction, access and drainage. If the space cannot contain the intended application, move the vehicle, change the setup or use an approved application method that fits the location. Do not assume that a cleaner suitable for one car is suitable for every neighbouring finish.
Prepare the rinse route before opening the bottle. Keep the product label available and avoid spraying toward people, open windows or ventilation inlets. Use the protective equipment specified for the actual product.
Stop the application and identify what was contacted. Follow the product and surface manufacturer's guidance for prompt removal. Avoid wiping a neighbouring dusty car dry, because that can introduce additional damage. Inform the owner or responsible person with a clear description of the product and affected area rather than concealing the incident under a quick detail spray.
Photograph the condition and record the response if a mark remains. A coating on the neighbouring vehicle is not evidence that the chemical was compatible or that no follow-up is necessary.
For repeat jobs, use a short site check: vehicle spacing, wind, drainage, nearby finishes and a ready water supply. This is more effective than relying on unusually careful aim after spraying has begun. Where suitable control is unavailable, postponing that stage is a better operational decision than trying to complete a full pre-wash in an unsuitable space.
