A new drying towel should be inspected and prepared according to its care label before it touches a finished vehicle. “New” describes purchase history; it does not prove that the towel is free of loose fibres, packaging debris or manufacturing residue.
Open the package in a clean area. Examine the edges, label, stitching and both working faces. Remove loose packaging material without dragging it across the pile. If a hard inclusion, damaged seam or uneven edge is present, resolve it with the supplier rather than assuming laundering will fix it.
Follow the towel manufacturer's first-use instructions. When washing is recommended, use the stated process and avoid unapproved additives. Keep it separate from heavily contaminated detailing textiles. A household load containing lint-producing fabrics can introduce a new problem while you are trying to remove an old one.
Inspect it again after drying. Test on a suitable clean, inconspicuous surface or a sacrificial panel before assigning it to delicate paint. Look for lint, dragging and residue. Do not judge drying performance by pressing harder until the water disappears.
If it leaves a film, compare it with a known-clean towel using the same water and surface. That small comparison helps distinguish a towel problem from a rinse-water or product-residue problem. Keep the comparison free of drying aids initially if the product instructions allow, because an added spray can obscure the source.
Label the towel's intended task and store it clean. A premium price or high advertised fabric weight does not exempt it from inspection. The aim is a towel that performs predictably within a good drying process, not merely one that feels impressive when removed from the packet.
