Graphene Adhesion Claims: Test the Coating on the Intended Finish

Adhesion is a property of a coating system on a particular prepared substrate.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Adhesion is a property of a coating system on a particular prepared substrate. A graphene ingredient does not establish that the complete formula will adhere equally well to every surface.

Define the system

Identify the substrate, existing finish, preparation process and cure conditions. If a report concerns a different material or treatment, ask whether it is relevant to the proposed application. A strong result on one laboratory panel should not automatically be extended to every paint, film or plastic.

Keep preparation in the evaluation

If adhesion differs between two trials, review preparation and handling records before assigning the difference to the additive. The customer also needs instructions that can be followed consistently. A product comparison is more useful when it includes the practical preparation burden rather than presenting laboratory performance without the process needed to obtain it.

For a graphene coating, the defensible question is how the exact formula performs on the specified finish under its documented procedure. Universal adhesion claims are much broader than most individual tests can support.
