Pyrolytic and sputter-coating describe different glass-manufacturing processes. Neither term should be treated as a generic approval for adding a site-applied nano coating.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge
Vitro explains that pyrolytic coatings are applied during hot glass manufacture, while sputter coatings are deposited through a separate controlled process. The exact glass product determines its location, handling and care requirements.
Illustrative example: two panes are both described as low-e glass, but their product constructions and exposed surfaces differ. A cleaning or coating method approved for one should not be transferred automatically to the other.
Do not infer durability or chemical compatibility from hard-coat or soft-coat shorthand alone. Follow the glass manufacturer's current product-specific requirements and obtain approval for any additional surface treatment.
