A full polishing range.
From cutting and one-step correction to final finishing.
An approved mock-up is most useful when it remains identifiable and available during the full project. A photograph or a remembered description may not preserve every appearance detail needed for later comparison.

Define how the sample will be stored, handled and referenced after approval. Record the surface, preparation, product and relevant observation conditions. If the sample changes through cleaning, damage or exposure, note that history rather than treating it as an untouched reference. Keep the approval scope attached to the sample so it is not used for unrelated finishes.
Illustrative example: an approved metal sample is later cleaned with an undocumented product and used to judge a new installation. Its current appearance may no longer represent the original approval. Preserving its history prevents a changing reference from becoming an unexplained acceptance target.
Do not describe a mock-up as a permanent material standard or laboratory reference unless it is managed as such. It supports a defined project decision. Product changes, different substrates or altered service conditions may require a fresh assessment rather than reliance on the old sample.
