Interior Plastic Coatings: Separate Touch Surfaces from Optical Surfaces

Interior plastics include decorative trim, controls and optical components with different requirements. A single generic plastics approval is insufficient.

Practical approach

Identify the actual component and confirm the product's permitted use. Keep displays, lenses and functional interfaces excluded unless explicitly approved.

A door trim panel and an anti-reflective display cover can look equally smooth while needing very different care.

Decision limits

Do not apply a trim coating to screens based only on material appearance.
