From cutting and one-step correction to final finishing.
Keep brushed, polished and already treated surfaces separate in the project inventory.

A stainless-steel finish register helps a project team avoid treating visually similar panels as identical. It records the actual finish and known surface history before coating selection. The register should connect each finish description to a physical location or sample.
Include the supplier's designation, component or panel reference, location and available documents. Distinguish brushed, polished and already treated surfaces without assuming those broad labels fully describe them. Record repaired or refinished areas separately where relevant.
Identify missing treatment information and who will obtain it. For example, a panel supplied as fingerprint-resistant may already carry a treatment that needs clarification before another product is considered. Do not convert a marketing description into a complete technical specification.
Record the proposed product, compatibility review and approved mock-up for each confirmed finish. Keep exclusions visible. Update the register if the fabricator substitutes a finish or the site replaces a panel. This gives installers and facilities staff a usable map of the project rather than a single broad instruction to coat all stainless steel. The register's purpose is to preserve meaningful differences so recommendations, application records and later maintenance remain tied to the surfaces actually installed.
Use one row for each distinct exposed finish, with supplier reference, appearance, existing treatment, location and known limitations. Then link the selected coating or pending assessment to that finish. This separates what the substrate is from what the project proposes to apply.
A building may contain brushed, polished, coloured and clear-coated components that are all casually described as stainless. Do not merge them merely because they share a metal family. Record unknown finishes as unknown and obtain the appropriate information. The register becomes a practical tool for estimating, testing and maintenance because each decision remains connected to the actual exposed surface.
