A Photo Guide for Asking About a Coating Problem

Help customers capture useful wide and close views instead of isolated reflections without context.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Useful photographs can make a coating support enquiry much easier to understand. The images should show the issue, its location and the surrounding surface. A single dramatic close-up often lacks the context needed to decide what information is missing.

Start wide, then move closer

Photograph the whole relevant area, a view that locates the issue and a closer view of the observation. Keep the orientation clear. Where possible, use comparable lighting across images and explain if a reflection or viewing angle changes what is visible. Do not edit away relevant surface details.

Add a short factual note

Include the exact product where known, surface type, application date and when the issue appeared. Record recent cleaning or repair activity. Distinguish the visible observation from your explanation of the cause. For example, a streak is something to show; a failed chemical bond is not something a photograph alone establishes.

Let the evidence guide the next step

Ask the installer or manufacturer whether further images, documents or an inspection are needed. Do not repeatedly apply products just to make the image look different before receiving guidance. Avoid including unrelated personal information in the photographs. A useful photo set supports a technical conversation while preserving uncertainty about details that images cannot reliably reveal, such as exact material identity or treatment history.

Send three useful views of a coating concern

Provide an overall panel image, a medium view locating the affected area and a close-up showing the observation. Add the product, treatment date, when the issue appeared and what happened immediately beforehand. Keep the original files where possible.

Use lighting that reveals the concern without heavy editing. A dramatic crop can hide whether the issue follows a panel edge, a repaired area or a cleaning pattern. Do not ask the customer to repeat a potentially unsuitable treatment merely to produce a better photograph. Good images support a technical conversation; they do not establish the full cause by themselves. Include a simple description in the customer's own words alongside them.
