Writing a Private-Label Marine Coating Brief

A marine private-label brief should describe the customer and intended surfaces before it specifies packaging. This gives the manufacturer a clearer basis for recommending a formulation and evaluation plan.

Define the application

Identify vessel types, surface systems and intended users. Distinguish topside care from immersed-hull treatment, and flag walking surfaces or other specialised uses separately. Describe the expected cleaning routine and application environment. Avoid using “all marine surfaces” as a substitute for a defined scope.

Plan sample evaluation

Agree representative test surfaces, preparation and acceptance criteria. Assess dry finish, application behaviour and routine care under documented conditions. Build the support package

Request the appropriate technical and safety documents for the selected product and markets. Plan installer guidance, aftercare information and a process for technical questions.
